A beautiful knife for BIG hands

First off, I just got this knife about an hour ago and I love it. I was surprised at how huge it is despite every review talking about how big it is. Its size simply cannot be overstated. If you have small hands or don't like big knives, this is not for you. I have large hands but typically prefer smaller knives for the ease of carrying and nimble handling. However, I'm a collector and lack bigger blades in my collection. I'm going to try carrying this for a while, maybe use it at work (I'm in the trades, I would NOT bring this into the office!) I have a feeling its size and heft will grow on me.

As for quality, feeling in hand, etc...

I see no defects, scratches or anything of the sort out of the box. Blade is very sharp out of factory and centering is perfect. Action is smooth as butter with a satisfying ker-chunk. You can feel it jolt in your hand with all that blade weight swinging out. Feels powerful, feels good. Titanium handle is comfy, no hot spots, but maybe just a touch on the smooth side. Given its size you can get such a meaty grip on it that the smoothness is hardly an issue. I'm very particular about jimping and the jimping on this knife is near perfect IMO. They left the edges of each jimp nice and square, but it's fine enough not to gouge your skin, yet deep enough to really give traction. The frame lock moves over easily and has a nice contour so your thumb won't go raw if you're the type to fidget with a knife. However, the frame lock does not have an over travel stop so be mindful of that.

Overall it's a beautiful behemoth of a knife suitable for collectors. Not and EDC blade unless you're in the trades, military, police force, etc. High quality materials, feels nice in the hand, sharp out of box, excellent craftsmanship. No complaints.

Beware, this knife is enormous.

Great knife and great price

Love the action. It was also the sharpest knife from the factory I have ever bought.

Taken to the Max?

The Sheepdog XL really is a huge folding knife. But its benefits transcend its sheer size. The blade to handle ratio is insanely good, the big flat grind comes down to an exceptionally sharp factory edge and the overall ergonomics fit the knife well in the hand. I see only one downside with this edition: holding it in hand, it feels quite heavy, no wonder considering it's all metal. But now for the real question: When does the XXL Sheepdog arrive?
